HOW WE MET: My husband Jay & I met in a special way. I was working and living in Columbus, Ohio and one day one of my co-workers called me over to her desk and showed me this web page of someone she dated in high school. I said no way, he is nice looking. I had some good friends in California who I would visit yearly and since this good looking man which was Jay lived in California, I thought it would be nice to have another friend in California.
She contacted him to see if he would like to meet me and he said yes. Jay was coming to visit his family who also lived in Columbus, actually 5 minutes from my house and we thought we could meet then. The only day I couldn’t meet was the day he showed up at my workplace and I was off, so we didn’t get to meet. Jay was coming back to Columbus shortly after that, so we thought great we can meet again, however the night we were supposed to meet there were tornado warnings happening in Ohio, so me being the chicken I am, didn’t leave the house due to the storms. So, again we missed meeting. Shortly after that I was going to California to visit my friends, so we arranged to meet at my friends house, which was 2 hours out in the desert from where Jay lived. He drove all that way, not knowing too much about me and we had our first date! The third time was a charm.

We dated long distance from Ohio to California for three years before he finally proposed! The funny thing is my friend’s mother would always ask me when are you going to get married and this was way before I knew Jay and I would always say “I don’t know”. One day she asked and I repeated again “I don’t know, but I have a vision of what it might look like”. I explained I saw a beach wedding where I was up on a higher cliff over looking the ocean and she said that is Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, hmmm, ok. So, when Jay proposed I said we have to go and check out Hotel Del Coronado, so we did, but found that wasn’t exactly my vision. So, I spoke with my friends and asked where could this spot be that I envisioned and they told me to check out La Jolla, which was just north of San Diego, so we did. I found the exact spot I envisioned and I couldn’t believe that years ago my friends took me to that spot to see it while I was there on vacation, way before Jay was even in the picture. We booked the La Jolla Bridge Club and were married 10/30/10 outside in the garden area facing the ocean.
Prior to us walking down the isle, our guests told us there were three pelicans that did a fly over and several hummingbirds around that were exactly the same colors I picked out for my colors, pink and sage. Someone up above was watching out for us on that special day. Even today our friends will tell us this was the best wedding ever! Although, we did not marry at Hotel Del Coronado, we did honeymoon two nights there prior to flying to Maui, Hawaii.
We had approximately 100 guests and they came from all over including Alaska and Ohio. Our cost for the wedding was approximately $15,000.
My attendants were two friends I met in water aerobics in Ohio. Joan was always in the shallow end of the pool with me and we became very good friends. Shari was my water aerobics instructor and for three years she told me when you get married, I want to be your flower girl, so I honored her request. Jay had a very good friend from Ohio, Nick as a groomsmen and his friend Rolfe who lives in Los Angeles. Pastor Rick Kesler who married us, is also a very good friend of Jays who has acted in Jay’s movies and is now a pastor in Chicago, IL.
