UNIVERSITY CLUB Originally founded in 1922, this is a delightful location for a wedding as you’ll have the facility all to yourself. This is a social and business membership club during the week but available for events on the weekend unless there is a Club event. The Entrance Foyer has the traditional grace of a well-heeled sitting room, with its white paneled walls, dark wood floors and upholstered wing back chairs and works well for registration of guests. After your guests register, they can be ushered to the romantic Courtyard for a wedding ceremony. A billowing canvas canopy shields the patio area from the sun, giving it a softly diffused light. Lush feathery ferns line the perimeter and bright flowers drape over hanging pots. At the far end, a gurgling fountain offers a natural backdrop for exchanging vows. This area seats 130-140 for the wedding ceremony. You can opt for cocktails (or dinner) inside the Front Lounge, a large airy space with exposed-beam ceilings, a built-in bar and picture windows overlooking the Courtyard. This may be nice and intimate for small weddings. Or, if you have a larger guest count, your reception can be in the Great Hall which has a full kitchen. This impressive dining room has the look and feel of a very refined room. At one end, a 30-foot floor-to-ceiling arched window lets in natural light and offers a peek at the greenery outside. Multi-tiered gold chandeliers draw your eye to the dramatically high rafters of the intricate, cross-beamed ceiling and suffuse the room in a honeyed glow. The marvelous collection of gilt-framed original oil paintings depicting early California life adds a unique touch and huge visual impact. With seating for over 200, this ballroom-sized hall can easily accommodate a substantial dance floor and band, yet it never loses its sense of warmth, thanks to features like a walk-in stone fireplace and rich, wood-paneled walls. Upstairs is the John Library, with its old leather bound books and wooden cabinets that can be used for grooms men and the Sun Room, perfect for the brides room. Also part of the Club is If you’d like something more casual, is the Club Pub on the lower level. They are open and available year round except for major holidays. They have a full kitchen catering menu, tables, chairs and linens, screen, dance floor, etc. And the nice thing is that the wedding party and their guests have private use of the facilities. |
