Michael Shane Willms, Master of Event Concepts, Entertainment Design Events

For over two decades, Michael Shane Willms has been the mastermind behind trendsetting events for dignitaries ranging from silver screen legends to international royalty. A dazzlingly skilled planner, designer and orchestrator, Michael has created masterpiece celebrations for such eminent personalities as Audrey Hepburn, Merv Griffin, Fergie Duchess of York, U.S. President Jimmy Carter, and Empress Michiko of Japan; and many prestigious companies, including Givenchy, Cartier, and the Times Mirror Foundation. Creating sophisticated affairs that reflect the personalities and nuances of his diverse clients is Michael’s forte.

Michael has been featured in high-profile publications such as Wedding Style, InStyle, Gourmet, Inside Weddings, and Southern California Bride. He was the stylist for Cory Feldman and Suzie Sprague’s televised wedding on “The Surreal Life,” appeared on the television show “Romantic Rendezvous,” and was the featured designer on the E Network’s “You’re Invited.” To keep his finger on the pulse of the industry, Michael supports the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC), the International Special Events Society (ISES), and June Weddings International.

A born event planner…

Michael’s penchant for entertaining was evident early on: on his second birthday, he invited 40 neighborhood friends to his party… unbeknownst to his mother. He began baking at age five. At nine, he produced his first Halloween festival, causing such a neighborhood traffic jam that the police were summoned. In junior high, he profitably sold a greeting card line and taught cake decorating; and in high school, he established a telemarketing bakery business, taking orders for cakes and pastries that he later baked and delivered himself.

After three summers at Aspen Music School and four years at Oberlin College, Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree. Along the way, he gained first-hand knowledge of art history; stage decor and choreography; visual effects; music; dance; costumes; floral and lighting design; and acting. At Oberlin, he prepared and served dinners at the Associate Dean’s home to a coterie of hip professors and artists.

Following a five-year period in his father’s medical practice, during which he developed his business acumen, Michael returned to his love of hospitality as an event manager in a local country club. At age 25, he launched his own restaurant and catering service, “Michael’s Lunch Box,” where he perfected his gourmet baking, cooking, and menu planning.

Selling the business after four years, he moved to Southern California to work with renowned Rococo Custom Catering as manager and catering director of food service at The Huntington Library. He then launched Entertainment Design Events. Michael finds great joy in creating the tone and mood for the special moments in his clients’ lives…and then stepping back and watching unforgettable experiences unfold.

Authentic Scandinavian Goodieswww.authenticscandinaviangoodies.com

Eighteen rings of delicious almond cake, this traditional Norwegian wedding cake conceals a bottle of champagne or wine. It's gluten-free, crispy and chewy. This extraordinary confection is fabulous for the wedding party's head table or as a centerpiece for all the tables at a reception. It can also be ordered in chocolate, peanut butter or the regular almond ingredients and be decorated to match any theme or color scheme. This cake is also used for other special occasions; birthdays, anniversaries and celebrations of all kinds. Unlike regular cakes, it's not sliced but broken in pieces and shared until the bottle is revealed.

Why this cake? Ellen Snotland grew up in a very ethnic community in South Dakota; full of Norwegians. The Norwegian Almond cake is used for all sorts of celebrations not limited to weddings. It's labor intensive and fun to eat. She makes it because she wanted to learn more about her mother, who was a woman who never cursed. However, she would swear whenever she made this cake since it was so difficult. Ellen loves the taste and also like that it's gluten-free because she can't eat wheat or flours herself.

Create something different in toasting your new life!
Instead of champagne, introduce your guests to

SPARKLING SAKE

It's light bubbly flavor will add a new dimension to your wedding reception!

Japon Bistro in Pasadena, CA has had the pleasure of introducing thousands of customers to Premium Sake from Japan. This has been achieved by hosting Sake Pairing and Tastings at the restaurant for the past six years.

Realizing that Japon Bistro can only physically host so many Sake Pairing and Tastings, we have taken the macro vision approach to provide an opportunity to access the numerous wonderful sakes not commonly known to the general public.

There is no interactive retail outlet to purchase Sake in Southern CA. Through Japon Bistro, and the creation of the Sake Institute of America (SIA) and the Sake Only Store(SOS) we will provide education, pairing suggestions and point of sale location to purchase and enjoy Sake. One of our goals is to introduce the wonderful flavors and enjoyment of “Sparkling Sake” to the wedding industry.

Featured at the White Satin Wedding Store is Star Rabbit Sparking Sake
Pours a ruby red color with a nice pinkish head, fairly carbonated for just sparkling, even holds together too. The nose is fruity and light with the typical koji and alcohol note you always get with a cheaper base sake watered down to this low of a percentage. Obviously this stuff was bad, BUT the blueberry does meld things together with some love. Fresh berry flavors with a sweet
(-30) flavor yet a tart berry note that balances it. The finish is clean and refreshing.

WHITE SATIN BRIDAL SHOW features the designers of Alina Pizzano

ALINA PIZZANO
Growing up in Los Angeles in a Cuban family, Alina was greatly influenced by the creative designs and dress making abilities of her mother, aunt, and grandmother. She was eventually inspired to attend Otis College of Art and Design, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design.

While still in school, she was hired by Anne Klein and upon graduation made the move to New York where she joined the design team of Ken Kaufman and Isaac Franco. In New York, Alina also designed the "Wear to Work" Collection for Limited Design Services and assisted in the start up of the designer label of KaufmanFranco. She eventually retuned to Los Angeles, joining the design team of BCBG Max Azria as Senior Designer.

Alina's venture into the bridal market was borne out of the desire to design her sister's wedding gown. With such a limited amount of custom designers available, Alina seized the opportunity to fill a niche that she knew she could with elegance, inspiration, and individuality. Her sense of romance combined with contemporary design has brought her here, where she now creates magnificent couture wedding gowns and bridal accessories.”

David Wilson

www.dreamviolin.com

Quality, variety, warmth and ease are qualities to be found in David Wilson's violin performances. Specializing in his own extemporaneous style, listeners are rewarded with a romantic, flowing "joi de vivre".

Wilson began his professional violin career in 1987. He performed nightly at the romantic hideaway restaurant, Il Cielo, in Beverly Hills. Here was where he entertained Hollywood celebrities and important political figures, earning him the moniker, "Violinist to the Stars". Tina Sinatra took note of his music and recommended him to perform at a private event attended by Henry Mancini. Upon hearing Wilson, Mancini asked him to provide solos on his film score for the 1990 Blake Edwards film "Switch". The following year, Mancini featured David's improvisations on his RCA album "As Time Goes By".

Following his collaborations with Mancini, Wilson carved out his own niche in the music world, recording his first album "There's a Small Hotel" in 1997. Working with producer Benedikt Brydern, they recorded a diverse collection of popular music culled from the American songbook intermixed with continental favorites. Impressed by the recording, Swallowtail Records signed him and released David's debut album. This recording, establishing the violin as a medium for popular listening, was an immediate hit; selling ten's of thousands of units in the US and abroad.

Since that release, Wilson has recorded seven more well-received and critically acclaimed albums with Swallowtail. These albums include: "The Romance of Paris" -"Dreams of Hollywood Nights" -"The Romance of Christmas" - "Cafe Europa" -"Easy To Love" - "Romance After Hours" - "Boulevard of Dreams"

Wilson and Brydern more recently collaborated on two additional albums, released on Brydern's ConSordino Music label - "Elegancia", an album of romantic Latin favorites and "Nobody Does It Better - Love Songs of Our Generation." Ten albums and just over a decade later, CD sales now surpass 160,000 units – a figure almost unheard of in the rarefied world of violinists.

Wilson currently resides in Los Angeles where he continues to enchant listeners with live performances.

Panache Orchestra
www.panacheorchestra.com

The Panache Orchestra is an international touring acoustic violin/guitar duo that got started in Tokyo, Japan in mid 1998 not long after Brenda K (classically trained violinist) decided to go into voluntary exile there for a year or so with the intention of getting out of music. She and Chi "Mr. Groove" Saito, another career musician who had also just quit playing professionally (purebred rock player with extensive study of the great music of the world) met by a freak accident in a landmark sushi bar in the Azabu district (Tokyo) owned by a close friend of his. It was love at first sight, so they promptly began working together, cut an EP and debuted at Club Cay, a major Tokyo venue in the Aoyama district under the title "Brenda and Me" in 1998.

In late 2000 Chi, assisted by Brenda, opened a nightclub called "Asagaya Drum" that featured high quality live music and various multimedia events. During this time "Brenda&Me" expanded into a complete band format under the name "Strange Dream", appearing in prominent festivals and venues. However, before they were able to record a full-length album with the new line-up, Chi and Brenda K relocated to Brenda’s hometown of San Diego, California in late 2004 and subsequently up to Los Angeles, leaving the other members behind in Tokyo. Since Chi was now an exile also, the band rebranded itself as "theXiles" and their saga continues in L.A. They recently decided to change their name to "The Panache Orchestra", believing that name better accommodates the full range of their music and who they are as individual players.

They currently perform principally as an acoustic violin/guitar duo featuring accomplished professional multi-instrumentalists Chi Saito of Tokyo, Japan (guitar) and Brenda K of San Diego, CA (violin), but can alternately perform as a full band/orchestra, expanding their line-up with first rate players from amongst the musicians they have had the privilege of working with since their stateside debut.

At the end of 2008, The Panache Orchestra recorded and released a double album titled "10 Strings" featuring their all-original instrumental repertoire, stripped down to its bare essence with the natural sound of the acoustic guitar and violin. This two-disc set is their first commercial release since the project was mothballed for nearly 10 years, and constitutes a quick pen-and-ink sketch of their extensive and diverse repertoire, hinting at things to come. The title “10 Strings” refers to the album having been recorded in “live” format using only the acoustic guitar (six strings) and violin (four strings) with no overdubs.

One possible answer to the question, "what does The Panache Orchestra sound like?" could be, "An eclectic blend of influences greater than the sum of its parts, combining a wide array of musical styles and a vast amount of life experience stretching around the globe (and some would argue beyond it)". Their highly crafted instrumental repertoire spans diverse musical genres reflecting Brenda K's Euro-American classical foundation and Chi's highly enriched rock 'n roll roots, meshing together in an eclectic blend of crossover jazz/classical sensibilities infused with pop/rock/blues vernacular, with a number of pieces drawing their inspiration from Chi's traditional Japanese heritage. It has often been suggested that their music is especially well-suited to healing/holistic health and wellness applications, and for use in film and TV soundtracks.

The Panache Orchestra has enjoyed a warm welcome since their official US launch in 2008, being enthusiastically received at fine arts events and music festivals, as well as club dates and house concerts here and there. The broad consensus is that they have a truly original, distinctly transcontinental sound with universal appeal, and are always a huge hit at any gathering of people who enjoy high quality, energizing, well-crafted music, from the most intimate marriage proposals to large celebrations and concerts.

Barbara Reed and Jeff Fish of BLUE FISH stack their repertoire with song titles from contemporary giants like Bonnie Raitt, Bill Withers, Joe Cocker and Stevie Wonder, to the crooners of the 40s and 50s such as Frank Sinatra, and back to an era of swing dancers and famous big bands. You’ll hear Blues classics by B.B. King and Bessie Smith, piano classics from the likes of Fats Waller, and famous rockers by Elvis . . . played by talented musicians who respect both the style of the songs and your eardrums, and sung by Barbara, a passionate singer who maintains the heart of the song by setting the mood, and drawing you in with poignant—and understandable--lyrics.

Fashion Show

Friar Tux Shop was founded in May of 1974 in Lakewood, California. In the beginning there was one energetic young man running the shop. From early on, however, there was plenty of family support: Mom provided the catchy name and Dad provided a vision. Brother joined in soon to help with the increase in business. The recipe was simple: stir in lots of selection and quality, then blend this with generous amounts of impeccable customer service and reasonable pricing. Friar Tux Shop was a success!

Today, more than three decades later, Friar Tux Shop is a leader in men's formalwear in Southern California as well as a respected national figure. We've grown to dozens of locations from our single store in Lakewood, and have one of the largest collections of tuxedos and accessories in the United States. Despite having more than 200 employees, we're still a family business (even if our family is a bit larger now!), and still operate under the same recipe for success as we did back in 1974.

As we look towards our 40th anniversary, we can also look back at more than a million customers who have trusted their special event clothing to Friar Tux Shop. Whether it's a wedding, a high school prom, a Quiñceanera, the Academy Awards or a fraternity dance, Friar Tux Shop has been and remains the authority in men's special event attire.

Kevin Covey

Weddings can be one of the most stressful experiences of a couple’s life. Kevin creates memories for his clients with a lighthearted and genuine approach that make them feel he’s a part of the family. It’s this type of warm and personal approach that helped Kevin connect with audiences in 2003 when he launched to celebrity profile as a reality TV star. Kevin became a fan favorite on Style Network’s reality show “Whose Wedding Is it Anyway?”. Loyal fans continue tuning in to watch Kevin and other wedding planners as they make the wedding dreams of their couples come true.
“You only have this one day to express yourself”, quotes Kevin in the well-recognized television show intro. This one special day is the culmination of hours, days and months of planning an event that matches the unique personality of Kevin’s clients. After nine seasons of featuring fabulous weddings, “Whose Wedding Is it Anyway?” has become a sensational hit for the network.

The Style Network has kept Kevin busy, featuring him in two other wedding-related series. “Married Away” aired in 2006, with Covey working on the planning and coordinating of destination weddings. In the 2005 “Wedding Altered” series, Kevin acted as the guiding light for his couple’s family members who were charged with the planning and execution of the big day. In 2006, Kevin debuted in the popular original series “Platinum Weddings” on Women’s Entertainment Network (WEtv). Truly the ultimate wedding show, it captured the drama and decadence of planning a wedding on an extraordinary budget.

Kevin has maintained a busy schedule between tapings, day-to-day business operations, and national travel in partnership with beverage brand Kahlua and Gourmet Magazine as their national spokesperson. He toured various Macy’s Stores as a host giving tips of the trade on how to throw an unforgettable soirée.

Kevin is known for giving clients the star treatment. With master organizational skills and creative ideas, this powerhouse planner listens to his clients and helps them visualize their ideal wedding. People fall in love with Kevin for his ability to make their dreams come to life. His ability to use humor, class and impeccable taste allow him to design and direct upscale events throughout Southern California and beyond.

Covey is currently writing his first book that will share some of his most fascinating stories, memorable events and insights about planning the perfect wedding.

Wedding Attire

The Wedding Dress

The Wedding Dress was painted by Water color artist Kellye Nakahara Wallet. Although a painter, she is best know for her role as "Nurse Kellye" for 11 years in the television series M*A*S*H.

The Wedding Dress can be purchased as Cards which is great for thank you notes, bridal showers or wedding invitations or as a Giclee Painting [unframed or framed}. Prices and details will be at the White Satin Wedding Show

Born on Oahu, Kellye Nakahara moved to San Francisco to establish herself as a professional artist, selling her watercolors of the San Francisco waterfront through the well-known Polk Gallery. Kellye married David Wallett and moved to Los Angeles where she began her career as an actress. Halfway through the first season of “M*A*S*H”, she got the part of “Nurse Kellye”, appearing in every episode of this 11 year series, with her roles getting bigger every season.

Production on this series came to an end in January of 1983 with a final episode that was viewed by over 25 million people. With the incredible success of “M*A*S*H” and continued re-runs worldwide, Kellye is in demand as a performer and for public appearances. She spent the next several years after “M*A*S*H” traveling the country appearing in TV commercials as a spokesperson for IBM.

Kellye's collection “The Gardens of Pasadena”, features historical landmarks, gardens and neighborhoods in Pasadena, CA. Her master paintings are on indefinite loan to the City of Pasadena and currently exhibit at the Pasadena Police Department Headquarters and City Hall.

In 2008, Kellye was invited by Congressman Adam Schiff to paint a Christmas Ornament for the Official White House Christmas Tree in the Blue Room and attended a dinner reception at the White House hosted by Laura Bush and a special recognition at Schiff’s Holiday Gathering.

Her painting "Koi" was selected by Senator Jack Scott in 2001 to represent his district where it was on exhibit at the State Capitol. Kellye was commissioned to paint the Maguire Gardens at the Central Library, which were made into invitations and lithographs for the New Jersey reception during the Democratic National Convention.

Known for her bold use of color, Kellye’s paintings are a popular art collector's item. Her watercolor paintings are available as special edition lithographs, giclees and note cards.
